Care & Materials

Caring for Your Veloura Piece

Each Veloura Art piece is made with high-quality materials and finished entirely by hand. With the right care, your piece will stay beautiful for years to come.

Resin Art Care

UV Exposure & Yellowing

All resins can yellow slightly over time when exposed to direct sunlight or UV light. We use UV-stabilised resin to significantly slow this process, but we recommend displaying your pieces in indirect natural light or indoors to preserve their colour and clarity.

Cleaning

Wipe gently with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive sponges, harsh chemical cleaners, or soaking in water — these can dull the surface over time. For flat surfaces like coasters and trays, a mild soap solution on a soft cloth works well.

Heat Resistance

Resin is not fully heat-resistant. Avoid placing hot mugs, pans, or plates directly on your piece — this can cause warping, discolouration, or surface damage. Use a cloth or trivet when needed. Our coasters are designed for warm everyday drinks, not hot cookware.

Food Safety

We use food-safe grade resin for pieces intended to come into contact with food or drink, such as coasters and trays. These are safe for incidental contact once fully cured, but are not suitable for the microwave, dishwasher, or oven.

General Resin Tips

  • Store away from direct heat sources and radiators
  • Avoid dropping — resin can chip or crack on hard surfaces
  • Polish occasionally with a resin-safe polish or car wax to restore shine
  • Keep away from young children if the piece has small decorative elements

Candle Care

First Burn

The first burn is the most important. Allow the candle to burn until the entire top surface has melted into a full melt pool before extinguishing. This prevents tunnelling and ensures an even burn throughout the candle's life.

Trim Your Wick

Before every burn, trim the wick to approximately 5mm. A trimmed wick produces a cleaner, steadier flame, reduces soot, and extends the life of your candle.

Burn Time

Never burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Allow it to cool and solidify fully before relighting. Stop use when approximately 1cm of wax remains at the bottom.

Safety

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended
  • Keep away from drafts, flammable materials, children, and pets
  • Always burn on a stable, heat-resistant surface
  • Extinguish using a snuffer — do not blow out, as this can cause hot wax to splatter

Extending Candle Life

Store your candle in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve the fragrance and prevent the wax from softening or discolouring. Replace the lid between burns if one is provided.
